In the welcoming speech, Professor Sophia Chan, Secretary for Food and Health of the HKSAR encouraged the public to support and advocate end-of-life care.
Professor Chan said: “The HKSAR Government attaches great importance to holistic care of patients. Comprehensive end-of-life care allows patients to have dignity and meaningful moments at their end of life, also supports the end-of-life patients and their families to face the change of life with love, with care and with positive attitude.”
Mr. Cheung Leong, The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Executive Director, Charities and Community, said the Club has been a long-standing supporter of initiatives to address the comprehensive needs of Hong Kong’s senior citizens, and has designated Elderly Services as one of its strategic focus areas.
Mr Cheung said: “As part of the JCECC project, the elderly are encouraged to share their views with family members, get prepared together for the final journey and treasure every precious moment.”
“In this way, the elderly can rest in peace and those they leave behind can feel at ease. That’s why our Charities Trust is supporting this important project,” he added.
