Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy The Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy is involved in teaching the fundamental principles in pharmacology and relevant knowledge pertaining to drugs to medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy students. School of Public Health The School of Public Health is committed to protecting and improving health for all people, through the synthesis of state-of-the-science research, the dissemination of knowledge in education and training, and the application of the public health sciences. School of Biological Sciences The School was formed in 2007 following the merger of the Departments of Botany, Ecology & Biodiversity and Zoology. Research at the School focuses on Molecular & Cell Biology and Ecology & Biodiversity. The School’s high-impact research has attracted worldwide attention, and its academics devote themselves to quality teaching. Department of Chemistry The Department of Chemistry has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. Research in the Department focuses on the following four research fields: synthetic chemistry, physical chemistry and computation, chemical biology, and material science and energy. Its faculty members are top researchers committed to push back the frontiers of science and discover new knowledge, as well as transmit that knowledge through quality teaching to nurture the next generation. Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences The Department was established in 1995 to meet local demand for earth and planetary sciences expertise. It continues to help improve our home - Hong Kong through research, teaching and graduates. The Department has earned an international reputation that is reflected in the nationalities, research interests and global collaborations it has. Department of Mathematics As a mathematics department with the longest history in Hong Kong, the Department aspires to the highest standard of excellence in education, research and knowledge exchange. School of Chinese Rooted in nearly a century of scholarly excellence, the School of Chinese is a bridge between tradition and innovation. It explores Chinese language, literature, history, philosophy and culture from classical texts to contemporary issues. Home to internationally recognized scholars in Chinese studies, the School is a dynamic hub for rethinking China’s literary, linguistic, and cultural importance in a globalized world. School of English The School nurtures critical thinkers who interrogate language, power, and identity through vibrant research clusters and public-facing projects. It does so by delivering outstanding research and contributes to the life of language and literature in society both locally and globally through publications, conferences, postgraduate supervision, teaching, and knowledge exchange. The School pursues the two complementary themes of English Language Studies and English Literary Criticism, including the study of literatures, linguistics, communication, and critical and cultural theory. Research spans creative writing, performance and drama, with the state-of-the-art HKU Black Box theatre as a hub of international collaboration. School of Humanities What are the ethics of AI and posthumanism? How can we address the legacies of empire. With strengths in East-West intellectual dialogue, global humanities, and AI the School’s cutting-edge research and public events connect academic insight to societal change. Comprising 7 distinct research and teaching units, the SoH is the most diverse School in the Faculty. Students in SoH classes engage with the most important contemporary problems and graduate with the ability to understand the world and their place in it. School of Modern Languages and Cultures The principal mission of SMLC is to train students to be proficient in intercultural communication, confident about adapting to work and life around the world, and to apply a global mindset to their post-graduation careers and service to the communities they x`belong to, whether in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay area or beyond. In all of the current majors and minors, students receive interdisciplinary training to understand the world's societies and cultures and connect this knowledge to Hong Kong and mainland China through history, literature, politics, economics, anthropology, cultural studies, media studies, and other areas of teachers’ expertise. Centre of Buddhist Studies Helps students understand Chinese culture and its Buddhist influences through historical analysis and theoretical enquiry—covering literature, philosophy, arts, architecture, mores, Confucian–Buddhist integration, ethics, visual art, Chan, and popular beliefs. Department of Architecture The Department of Architecture educates students in an active culture of service, scholarship and invention. Department of Real Estate and Construction The Department is rooted in the surveying profession and has expanded into expertise covering land, construction, real estate, and conservation, with a growing interest in digital technologies and data analytics. Department of Urban Planning and Design The Department envisions to become a world-leading planning school with excellence in teaching and research in urban studies, aiming to help reshape urban planning and policy in Hong Kong, China and beyond. Division of Landscape Architecture The Division is committed to teaching and research that further the discipline and practice of Landscape Architecture, engaging with topical landscape issues in Hong Kong and the region, while advocating sustainable development and balancing communities with their environments. School of Biomedical Engineering The School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) was founded in March 2025 and represents a unique collaboration between the Faculties of Medicine, Engineering, Dentistry and Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. SBME is a trailblazer in redefining BME education and research — empowering the next generation to transform healthcare by linking engineering, life sciences, and clinical translation.

Hong Kong Biodiversity Museum The Hong Kong Biodiversity Museum (HKBM) is the first museum in Hong Kong that dedicates to biodiversity. It strives to be a natural history museum that promotes environmental education and appreciation of biodiversity, fostering its preservation as a part of mankind’s natural heritage, supporting scientific research on biodiversity, and enhancing the biodiversity literacy of the general public. Stephen Hui Geological Museum As the first and only geological museum in Hong Kong, the Stephen Hui Geological Museum has opened for public since 2009. It quickly became a recognised resource for Earth Science education in Hong Kong and the region, and has maintained its position as the city’s premier Earth Science gallery. A comprehensive mineral collection from all over the world collected and donated by Dr Stephen HUI forms the core of the Earth Material gallery.

Laboratory for Space Research The Laboratory for Space Research (LSR) is an interdisciplinary unit established to advance astrophysics, space and planetary sciences and the NewSpace economy through international and collaborative research and development. With the mission to foster collaboration and innovation in space science and technology, LSR promotes cross-disciplinary work and strengthens partnerships with Mainland China, leveraging emerging Chinese space programmes. The Swire Institute of Marine Science The Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS), established in 1990 and originally named the Swire Marine Laboratory, is located at Cape d’Aguilar as an off-campus research facility of the Faculty of Science. With its research focus set on coastal marine systems, SWIMS facilitates and enhances interdisciplinary research about their biodiversity and ecology, particularly about habitat destruction and restoration; global change and adaptation; and overexploitation and sustainability. SWIMS also aspires to foster research collaborations and education links with other marine facilities in Southeast Asia and across the globe, introducing the wonderful world under the sea to the general public.
